What’s been on my mind this whole time!?

Hello to all Evo users,

I’ve been using Evolution for 20 years and I’ve been through all its phases.

But today I’m asking myself: what is the real situation with Evolution right now?

QUESTIONS:

The most important question: should I use “Evolution” or “evocms-community”?
Will it eventually be the case that, for new installations, Evo (both versions) can only be installed via the command line / console? To this day I honestly still don’t really understand that!!!
Is it possible — or do you think it’s likely — that one of the two branches will die out, either because the community is too small or because of communication issues (mostly in Russian)?

Yes — nobody can predict the future, but your opinion is very important and helpful to me.

I especially appreciate answers from “ @Graffx rafxx” and “ @Pathologic”, and I really hope for a reply that gives me a good feeling about continuing to work with Evo in the future.

I thought that everything was explained 4 year ago. We decided to prioritize quality, so we're still fixing bugs even in 1.4. And if the version number is what matters to you — then what can I do about it? Nothing.

There are no communication issues. You can ask here or in https://t.me/evo_cms if you need quick reponse. The only communication issue is absence of this communication from non-russian users - no forum posts, no github issues. However, occasionally there are these strange musings that all is lost.

I chose CE because Dmytro stopped being active for a while and there was not much updates.

I don't know whats being done in the future, seems both repositories are going seperate ways but probably the extras will work fine on both. All my sites are on CE so for me atm this is my best pick.

Dmytro is (more) active again, so I think both are fine to pick, both are active, CE has a larger development community (RU) I guess but the old repository have had its updates too.

Unfortunately, your answer doesn’t make me feel any better.

I understand that open-source projects don’t come with a guarantee of stability, but in this case the situation is very confusing and misleading. How are we supposed to explain to a “new EVO user” which of the two “EVO versions” they should or can install? Sooner or later, there will be differences between them.

Also, which forum should I ask my question in? I feel like we as normal users are stuck between two sides.

I guess you have to choose which one you think is the right one for you. Future will tell. Both will have their updates.

Now it's clear to me where my home is: right here at "CE"! From now on, I'll only ask my questions here; anything else just doesn't make sense to me.
